# Guess the Speed > A family game-night app where everyone guesses download and upload speed before a real internet speed test. ## Key facts - The game is free and does not require accounts or use cookies. - A round takes about two minutes, so it also works as a quick filler game between board games, while dinner cooks, or before a movie. - It runs a real speed test in your browser against Cloudflare's network. - Play with one or more players on one screen; room-code games support up to 12 players. - Play together on one screen or use room codes on separate phones. The room server hides guesses from other players until the result is ready. - Classroom Mode lets teachers organize classes and teams on one shared device; student rosters stay in that browser. - Place scoring awards 3 points for first, 2 for second, and 1 for third. Each download or upload guess within 5% earns one spot-on bonus point, while place points require an average miss of 50% or less. - Room Race mode lets players lock in or change a guess during a test; timing multiplies accuracy points, and live speeds stay hidden until the result. - Single-device game data stays in that browser. Multiplayer rooms are deleted after six hours without activity. - Optional internet plan comparisons stay in this browser and are never sent to us. ## Pages - [Play Guess the Speed](https://guessthespeed.com/) - [Guess the Speed in Tamil](https://guessthespeed.com/ta/) - [Guess the Speed in Spanish](https://guessthespeed.com/es/) - [Classroom mode in Tamil](https://guessthespeed.com/ta/classroom/) - [Classroom mode in Spanish](https://guessthespeed.com/es/classroom/) - [Work mode in Tamil](https://guessthespeed.com/ta/work/) - [Work mode in Spanish](https://guessthespeed.com/es/work/) - [Our story](https://guessthespeed.com/story/) - [Live stats](https://guessthespeed.com/stats/) shows aggregate totals for rounds, games, guesses, spot-on guesses, average download, closest misses, and play modes. - [How to play](https://guessthespeed.com/how-to-play/) - [How it works](https://guessthespeed.com/how-it-works/) - [Internet speed 101](https://guessthespeed.com/internet-speed-101/) - [What is a good internet speed?](https://guessthespeed.com/what-is-a-good-internet-speed/) - [Speed School](https://guessthespeed.com/speed-school/): searchable index of every guide, tool and game night article - [Why Is My Internet Slow When Someone Is Downloading?](https://guessthespeed.com/why-is-my-internet-slow-when-downloading/): loaded latency and bufferbloat explained, with home tests (Cloudflare, Apple networkQuality, ping) and fixes. - [How much internet speed do you need for gaming?](https://guessthespeed.com/internet-speed-for-gaming/) - [Upload vs Download Speed](https://guessthespeed.com/upload-vs-download-speed/): What upload and download speed mean, which home activities use each, and how much upload video calls, live streams and Remote Play need. - [Am I getting the internet speed I pay for?](https://guessthespeed.com/am-i-getting-the-speed-i-pay-for/) - [Household speed calculator](https://guessthespeed.com/how-much-internet-speed-do-i-need/) - [Mbps to MB/s converter and download time](https://guessthespeed.com/mbps-to-mbs/) - [Speed test game](https://guessthespeed.com/speed-test-game/) - [Team icebreaker](https://guessthespeed.com/work/) is a free five-minute remote meeting game where teammates guess speed before the test rotates between their devices. - [Family game night ideas](https://guessthespeed.com/family-game-night-ideas/) - [Classroom Mode](https://guessthespeed.com/classroom/) - [Internet speed lesson for kids](https://guessthespeed.com/internet-speed-lesson-for-kids/) - [Privacy](https://guessthespeed.com/privacy/) - [Full game guide](https://guessthespeed.com/llms-full.txt) ## Speed School articles by topic ### Guides - [Why Is My Internet Slow When Someone Is Downloading?](https://guessthespeed.com/why-is-my-internet-slow-when-downloading/) ([Markdown](https://guessthespeed.com/why-is-my-internet-slow-when-downloading.md)): Why calls and games lag while a download runs: loaded latency and bufferbloat explained, how to test it at home and what actually fixes it. - [Upload vs Download Speed: What Is the Difference?](https://guessthespeed.com/upload-vs-download-speed/) ([Markdown](https://guessthespeed.com/upload-vs-download-speed.md)): What upload and download speed mean, why most plans give you far less upload, and how much upload video calls, live streams and backups need. - [How Much Internet Speed Do You Need for Gaming?](https://guessthespeed.com/internet-speed-for-gaming/) ([Markdown](https://guessthespeed.com/internet-speed-for-gaming.md)): The Mbps and ping that online multiplayer, PlayStation Remote Play, Xbox Cloud Gaming and GeForce NOW ask for, plus real game download times. - [What Is a Good Internet Speed in 2026?](https://guessthespeed.com/what-is-a-good-internet-speed/) ([Markdown](https://guessthespeed.com/what-is-a-good-internet-speed.md)): Sourced download, upload and ping recommendations for streaming, calls, games and busy households, in plain English. - [Internet Speed 101](https://guessthespeed.com/internet-speed-101/) ([Markdown](https://guessthespeed.com/internet-speed-101.md)): A friendly guide to Mbps, download and upload speed, ping, Wi-Fi, and how much internet a home may need. ### Tools - [Am I Getting the Internet Speed I Pay For?](https://guessthespeed.com/am-i-getting-the-speed-i-pay-for/) ([Markdown](https://guessthespeed.com/am-i-getting-the-speed-i-pay-for.md)): Compare your plan with real download results, test fairly, and learn when a repeated gap is worth raising with your provider. - [How Much Internet Speed Do I Need?](https://guessthespeed.com/how-much-internet-speed-do-i-need/) ([Markdown](https://guessthespeed.com/how-much-internet-speed-do-i-need.md)): Count the streams, calls, games and downloads running at once and get a download and upload plan estimate for your home. - [Mbps to MB/s Converter](https://guessthespeed.com/mbps-to-mbs/) ([Markdown](https://guessthespeed.com/mbps-to-mbs.md)): 100 Mbps is 12.5 MB/s.
